Very few members of the once ‘Grand Old Party’ can be accurately labeled ‘Republican.’ Only a handful of Republican Politicians maintain the principles and ideals of their predecessors. Today’s ‘Republicans in name only’ have moved so far to the right that they no longer seek the protection of individual freedoms, or place their nation and its people ahead of personal ambitions.
One of the few who remain loyal to the beliefs of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan during his first term, is Arizona’s senior Senator John McCain.
Senator McCain, who is suffering from life-threatening brain cancer, was one of the few in his party who opposed and helped defeat a healthcare bill which would have ended medical care for millions of Americans without offering an equitable replacement. He has been a courageous voice, often railing at the remarks and proposals of his illegitimate president. Senator McCain has also opposed Trump’ nominee to head the CIA, Gina Haspel.
Senator McCain’s reasoning for opposing her has credence. He was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam debacle, and was tortured. Haspel was charged with operating a ‘black site’ during the year’s long invasion of Iraq. She oversaw torture of our suspected adversaries. Senator McCain was himself tortured by the North Vietnamese, and knows first hand that torture not only fails to achieve its purpose, it is not within the moral standards of the United States of America.
Kelly Sadler is another unfit aide wasting time in the White House. She responded to McCain’s opposition to Haspel, saying that ‘it doesn’t matter, “he’s dying anyway,” a White House official told CNN. All Sadler accomplished was to prove that she is nothing more than a ‘dumb Republican broad.
Then there’s the one woman in America who has proven by her relentless rambling that she lacked the intellect and knowledge to have been nominated for the vice-presidency in 2008.
Sarah Palin is another embarrassment to the women of our nation. Her support of the extreme right wing which calls itself the ‘TEA Party,’ added to the division within Republican ranks.
Senator McCain has released what will likely be his last book. It is titled “The Restless Wave.” He reveals many bits of information not confirmed previously. One of them is the fact that he regrets selecting Palin as his running mate. Sadly, he confirmed what most of us knew. She would literally have been a ‘heartbeat away from the presidency.’ Palin did not take the criticism well.
Responding to the ‘Daily Mail,’ Palin said: “That’s not what Sen. McCain has told me all these years, as he’s apologized to me repeatedly for the people who ran his campaign.”
The truth is that he was being ‘gracious,’ something very few Republican understand. Beginning at the top, Republicans have become angry, vicious, and defensive; proving that they have no ideas, and are unfit to govern.
In the book Senator McCain admits that he should have selected Joe Lieberman, but Palin will not accept the truth.
What we need is for Palin to stay in Alaska with her family and continue crashing parties while in an alleged state of drunken debauchery. This is where she belongs, not in our nation’s politics.
I have always found her offensive to my average intellect. She may fool Republican voters, but the rest of the world quickly learned what she was, and what she was not.
However, Saturday Night Live will always thank her for her words and actions which helped to make Tina Fey an even bigger star.
