I’m not gloating, because a meeting between the United States and North Korea was an opportunity to make the world a safer place for everyone. However, I predicted long ago that Trump would back out of the meeting. He never intended to enter into negotiations with Kim Jong-un; Trump is not a diplomat and the only way he made ‘deals’ in the private sector was to bully his counterpart, bribe public officials, or launder money for Russian oligarchs.
So what did Trump do? He threatened North Korea again, and placed all of the blame on Kim Jong-un. The following is part of the letter Trump posted.
“I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting,” Trump wrote. “Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place.”
Finally; we knew that he had no intention of attending the meeting in Singapore on June 12th; he has already scheduled ‘tee times’ for the following weekend.
