For nearly five years Republican Senator from Wisconsin, Joseph McCarthy, terrorized government officials, journalists, and members of the entertainment industry. His obsession with communism began a witch hunt in 1950, and lasted well into 1954 until his attacks on the United States Army resulted in censure by nearly the entire Senate. He interrogated his victims with accusatory phrases and demeaning verbiage, and attacked them with lies and innuendos which could not be disproven in a timely manner. McCarthy ruined the lives and careers of many patriotic Americans.
Trump has a different obsession; another imaginary problem which does not exist; immigration. His Gestapo, known as the U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, is arresting and deporting undocumented Americans every day; many of whom have contributed to our nation for decades. His hatred of all Muslims is revolting, and has encouraged his supporters to do the same. His lies and unconstitutional practices are a blight upon the Constitution and our nation. Under Trump’s administration hate crimes have risen by more than 800 percent, and we have had three of our nation’s largest and most devastating mass shootings, committed by white, male, homegrown terrorists.
Both men shared a hatred for the nation of our founding fathers; both shared a distorted view of what it should be. They also agreed that only parts of the Constitution should be obeyed, and that the first amendment should be repealed. Repeated lies and boisterous rhetoric were the tools used to spread their vile and subversive beliefs.
McCarthy is part of our nation’s dark past; Trump remains in the White House, where he is not welcome. He must be removed by any means. His power can be quashed in November if we elect Independents and Democrats while removing his hypocritical party from power.
