Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has failed the people of Kentucky, and the people of the United States for 33 long years. He has accomplished nothing with the exception of becoming a multi-millionaire. His lies are too many to count. His devotion to Trump is based on his love of his party and winning elections, not our nation or our people.
McConnell’s latest lie is a transparent effort to save Republican seats in the November election. He has cancelled the August recess. “We have a lot of important work to do. … The president’s made it quite clear he doesn’t intend to sign another omnibus, and in order to prevent that obviously we should do our work, which is to pass individual appropriations bills,” McConnell told reporters.
McConnell told the most egregious lie in his life when he said that the cancellation is necessary because of “Democratic obstruction.” Republicans have control of both houses, it is impossible for Democrats to halt any legislation or nominations from the right wing.
The truth is that the Senate may be in session through August, but they will do nothing; they do not have the ability or the will to effectively govern our nation. In January of 2009 McConnell promised that his party would do nothing while a black man lived in the White House. This continues today although President Obama has been out of office for 16 months and 29 days. The single “accomplishment” by Republicans since January 20, 2017, is their misnamed “tax reform.”
This law has been exposed. Reduced taxes for the middle class will end next year. Tax breaks for the wealthy and large corporations are permanent. The reduction in taxes will add at least $1.8 trillion to the deficit. Another failure.
Finally, the average age for all Americans is 37.8 years of age. McConnell will be 78 when he runs for reelection in 2020. He is too old to represent the American people. We can no longer allow “the turtle” to use our government to accomplish his personal ambitions. McConnell is the poster boy for term limits.
If Independents and Democrats regain control of the Senate, McConnell will no longer be the majority leader. For the first time since 2014 something will be accomplished in Washington. The party who has the ability to govern will be in control once again, and all Americans will be served. The needs and wishes of the many will be addressed once again.
