Tuesday, June 26, 2018, will be known as the day the Democratic Party was reborn, and its future became bright once again. Like all revolutions, it is beginning in a small way, but may become a huge tidal wave.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic nomination for a seat in the House of Representatives in New York’s 14th district. She is a 28-year-old Democratic Socialist. Her victory made a bold statement and offered a warning to old Democrats who have been sitting back and allowing Republicans to continue their war on the working class, and allow Trump to destroy democracy in America.
What makes this most significant is who her opponent was, and what it means for the ‘old guard’ in the Democratic Party. Joe Crowley has served this Bronx district for nearly 20 years. He is close to Nancy Pelosi, and expected to become the next Speaker of the House.
A combination of Ocasio-Cortez’ progressive agenda, and a lackadaisical campaign by Crowley, resulted in a win for the future of the Democratic Party.
Crowley’s arrogance was on full display when a debate was scheduled between the two candidates. He did not attend; he sent a member of his staff to answer the moderator’s questions. Crowley displayed a complete lack of respect for this young woman.
I have denounced the failures of older politicians on both sides of the aisle, and the fact that America desperately needs more women involved in shaping the future of our nation.
I am excited; I see hope in our nation’s future. Eliminating Republicans from office and electing younger men and women to office will destroy the vile agenda of the old, immoral, white man in the White House.
Please tell others about my blog, and offer them a chance to learn the truth; thank you.
