The Electoral College is unconstitutional. It eliminates the right of ‘one man, one vote.’ The people do not elect our president, a vague and fascist group of men and women decide the fate of our nation. It serves no purpose other than to offer an opportunity for Republicans to win the presidency.
Only once in the last seven elections has the Republican candidate won the popular vote; and that would not have happened in 2004 if the Supreme Court had not chosen our president in 2000.
Bill Clinton won the popular vote twice; Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000. Bush won it once in his reelection of 2004; President Obama was the people’s choice in both 2008 and 2012. Hillary Clinton would be the president today if the Electoral College did not exist. This is proof that most of the American people support liberal ideas and principles. Most Americans know that Republicans support special interests, and not the American worker.
Finally, the worst example of why the Electoral College is not only unconstitutional, it is unfair.
In 2004 the results of the presidential election were extremely close here in Nevada. Bush received only 21,500 more votes than John Kerry. All our five electoral votes were given to Bush. This means that the votes of 397,190 Nevadans had no meaning.
Republicans love this prior fact. When voters become discouraged and choose not to cast their ballots resulting a lower voter turnout, Republicans win elections.
The Electoral College fails to protect the vote of every American. This is a crime beyond all other crimes. I believe that I should have full representation in Washington.
The fact is that if the popular vote elected our president, a Democrat would have been in the White House since 1992; that’s the last 26 years.
Guess who wouldn’t be there today!
