Skye Savren-McCormick is a three-year-old adorable little girl. However, the nursing staff at the hospital gave her the name “Warrior Skye.” Before her first birthday, Warrior Skye was diagnosed with a rare form of juvenile leukemia. Then she developed lymphoma over her left eye. The consensus from her doctors is that she had a 10 percent chance to live.
“Some doctors said the chances of survival were not very good; it was going to be a lot of pain and suffering,” Skye’s mother Talia Savren-McCormick said. “They said we should probably take her home and put her on palliative care and say, ‘This is the end.'”
The staff at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles decided to take extremely aggressive action to save Skye’s life. She received 77 blood and platelet transfusions, seven rounds of chemo, multiple stem cell transplants, and three bone marrow transplants. Skye has been cancer free for one year.
It is policy not to reveal the names of the donors. However, Skye’s parents fought to break that policy, and in January Skye met with two-dozen of her donors at UCLA.
“Each time Skye received a transfusion, it was like life had been breathed back into her,” Talia Savren-McCormick said. “You provided Skye with a powerful bridge toward health until she was strong enough to undergo treatment.”
With the assistance of a bone marrow transplant agency, ‘Be the Match,’ Skye’s family was able to find the name of her first marrow donor, Hayden Hatfield Ryals. This began a series of e-mails, Facebook messages, and other contacts between the two families.
On her third birthday, a birthday not expected by doctors, Skye received a birthday gift from Ryals and a request. She asked if Skye would be the flower girl at her wedding.
The entire McCormick family made the trip to Alabama for Hayden’s wedding. At the rehearsal dinner Haden and Skye met for the first time.
“I walked up and I just dropped to my knees and all I could do was smile,” Ryals told ABC’s World News Tonight.
I often become depressed writing daily about the horrific actions by your illegitimate president and his circle of sinners. Trump’s lack of respect and compassion for everyone who is not white and pretends to be Christian is disgusting. His focus on increasing his personal wealth while using taxpayer money is criminal and an act of treason.
I hope Skye lives a long and productive life. I praise her parents and the doctors and nurses who never gave up. Saving the life of his frail little body gives hope, and clearly demonstrates how important every life is regardless of skin color, race, religious belief, or sexual orientation.
Please tell others about my blog and how the truth will save us all. Thank you.
