The once powerful United States of America has lost every war since WWII. Without the use of nuclear weapons our nation’s oversized military cannot defeat any enemy. The most important war in my lifetime began today, and we will lose once again.

When President Obama left office on January 20, 2017, our nation was in a state of recovery from the great recession of 2008. Trump’s ignorance regarding effective government has placed us into a trade war with China; a similar war will begin with Canada, and the European Union soon.

Today a 25 percent tariff will be applied to $34 billion of imports from China. China has reciprocated with tariffs on $34 billion of goods imported from America.

This is an enormous problem. American businesses cannot afford to lose money as they continue to recover from a near depression. In two weeks tariffs will be placed on another $16 billion Chinese imports. Trump says that if China retaliates, tariffs could be placed on $500 billion in imports.

The truth is that the United States cannot win this trade war. As I write this the European Union, Canada, China, Japan, and Russia are engaging in negotiations to establish trade agreements with each other. Theoretically America could be left alone in the world. Bankruptcies could begin before the midterm election. This is indeed “Trump’s Folly.” A plan which began in Moscow in 2013 between Trump and Vladimir Putin is nearing completion.

Don’t be fooled. Yes, Trump is ignorant, but this harmful decision was not a mistake. This was a plan to isolate America; a goal Putin had since he was a KGB agent.

I could be wrong, and Trump’s base would finally have a reason to celebrate the fact that they had their first “win.” But to challenge another Super Power is foolhardy. A competent leader would have engaged in long-term negotiations, but Trump doesn’t have the ability to “deal” unless he can bully or bribe his adversary.
