If you’re tired of hearing the same story, and the same solution which would end these tragedies, I don’t apologize; do something about Republicans and one of their owners, the NRA gun lobby.
Saturday another small child died from a self-inflicted gunshot in Fresno, California. The two-year-old toddler was alone in a bedroom and acquired a loaded weapon. The weapon, designed to kill human beings, discharged and the child was shot in the head.
Neighbors watched as the toddler was loaded inside the ambulance and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The parents were not home at the time, but there were two adults in the home. Police are investigating how the child acquired the weapon.
One more time. Before the National Rifle Association sold its soul for money from gun manufacturers and gun sellers, it was a gun safety organization. Before 1976 this was their suggestion to any American who chose to keep a weapon inside of their home. It was foolproof, but today’s gun owners care more about their lethal toys than the lives of their children.
Two simple steps were suggested by the NRA. First, ensure that the weapon is not loaded. Second, store the weapon and its ammunition in separate, locked areas. This would end the tragedies I have reported far too many times before.
If the parents of this toddler carelessly kept a loaded weapon in their home, they should be prosecuted for manslaughter. I know what you’re thinking, ‘they have suffered enough.’ I call bullshit. Until an example is made of uncaring adults, tragedies like this will continue.
