Why I Haven’t Written about Brett Kavanaugh Until Now

Kavanaugh

Because I promise you all the truth, I cannot just sit here and write about everything based on hearsay from others. Since Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court seat soon to be vacated by Anthony Kennedy, I have read page after page of both praise and criticism about the man.

Let me begin with his nomination. When Kavanaugh stood before the television cameras to accept his nomination, he lied to the American people as he offered false praise to his illegitimate president.

Kavanaugh praised Trump’s ‘hard work’ and deliberation making a choice for the nomination. First, informed Americans are fully aware that Trump played no part in vetting the list of candidates offered him. This list was composed by the extremist right wing publication ‘the Federalist Society.’ Every person on that list was an extremist whose personal views would influence their vote on the Court. The Constitution would be secondary.

Most importantly NBC revealed yesterday that before Kennedy announced his retirement he met with Trump in the White House. The two struck a deal; Kennedy would resign if Trump promised to nominate his former law clerk, Brett Kavanaugh.

So, before hearings began, Kavanaugh told his first lie.

Now let’s look at his record.

Kavanaugh began his rise to power by focusing on the defeat of Bill Clinton in the 1990’s. He created lies and exaggerated controversial issues in a concerted effort for the Republican Party.

Kavanaugh worked for Bush 43 and was instrumental in the administration’s destructive policies. To reward him for his party loyalty Bush nominated Kavanaugh as a judge for the United States Court of Appeal for the District of Columbia Circuit.

His confirmation remains controversial; the vote was very close, and after deliberations between Republicans and Democrats, he was eventually confirmed. The Judicial Review Board gave him very low ratings.

What do I think of Kavanaugh? The simple truth is that he is a tool of Republicans who are extremists. A more comprehensive answer is that he will definitely vote to repeal Roe v Wade, the Affordable Care Act, he opposes Corporate accountability, and believes that a president is immune from investigation and prosecution while in office. He is another danger to our freedoms and the advancements for the majority which have been made over the last 60+ years.

Finally, Mitch McConnel attacked both the Constitution and the future of the American people in February of 2016 when he refused to conduct hearings for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland. Judge Garland was well respected on both sides of the aisle and considered a moderate. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh are right-wing toadies and will greatly harm our Constitution and our country.
