All of the discussion about forcing the interpreter to testify before congress is ludicrous and is diverting the real focus of the events in Helsinki.
First, the law says that when an interpreter is used by our president, he or she works for the State Department. His or her notes are given to the Secretary of State and locked away. No one reads them.
The title of this article infers that congress has courage; it does not. All 535 members of the House and Senate are useless and refuse to serve our nation’s people or preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution.
The truth is that the focus must be on Trump. For more than two hours he was allowed to meet privately with the biggest enemy our nation has today. We must never ignore the fact that our right to vote in a fair election was considered the most important right in the Bill of Rights. Trump was aware of Putin’s interference and continues to deny the fact that in the 21st century this was a declaration of war. Trump’s refusal to berate Putin and warn him not to attempt anything similar in 2018 and 2020, is an act of sedition and deserving of impeachment and trial in a federal court of law.
Congress could have prevented the private meeting, but the cowardice of 435 men and women allowed Putin and Trump to enjoy their love fest without interruption.
Finally, Trump’s primary ‘brown-noser,’ Devin Nunes would never allow the interpreter to testify, and Paul Ryan would support him.
