When the Republican Party treasured its principles and beliefs, they were completely dissimilar to today’s pretenders. Here was the 1956 party platform.

• ·     Federal assistance to low-income communities
• ·     Extension of Social Security
• ·     Asylum for thousands of refugees, expellees and displaced persons
• ·     Extending minimum-wage protections “to as many more workers as is possible and practicable
• ·      Improving the unemployment benefit system
• ·     Protection of the right of workers to organize into unions and to bargain collectively
• ·     Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of sex

In addition, in the 1850’s Abraham Lincoln opposed racism.

Not a single member of the Trump Party supports any part of the platform of the Eisenhower Party. Today’s GOP are “Republicans In Name Only;” RINOs.

The Trump Party is the party of the one-percent. They have been ‘bought-and-paid-for many times over by wealthy Americans who pay lobbyists to buy votes for right wing politicians. Social programs are a pariah for the Trump Party. The people are of no importance. The wealthy and elections are their only considerations.

Today’s GOP has become xenophobic; supporters of white supremacy; homophobic; and sexist. They are escalating their war on Muslims, minorities, the LGBTQ community, women, and low-income and impoverished Americans.

Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and other true Republicans would denounce these imposters if they were alive today. George H.W. Bush has rejected Trump’s traitorous presidency multiple times.

As an Independent, I miss the Republican Party. Today, when I go to the polls, my choices are limited; and that’s not American.
