I’ve been writing about this far too many times. We have two serious problems in America which are very easy to repair.
First, our nation is gun crazy. Ten percent of Americans own 90 percent of all guns. Why should one-tenth of our nation’s people have rights and protections not afforded the great majority? The answer is the NRA gun lobby which is protected by the Trump Party. Changes must be made. People must be the priority, not corporate profits. The truth is that the Trump Party is protecting white terrorists, and mass murderers. They care more about campaign contributions than the safety of our school children, Americans attending a movie, or worshipers at a church service.
Second, and equally important, is the fact that eight percent of all murders in America are committed by law enforcement.
The American Journal of Public Health completed a study which reveals that between 2012 and 2108. The majority of Americans murdered by law enforcement are male and African American.
Our judicial system must be reformed from top to bottom. Not only are an average of three men killed each day, law enforcement appears to target minorities. In addition, the court system punishes minority men and women far more severely than whites for the same crime.
This situation has been exacerbated by your illegitimate president. Speaking to police officers on Long Island, Trump urged them to perform brutal actions on suspects they arrest.
Trump suggested; “please don’t be too nice” to suspected gang members. He also joked that police should not protect cuffed suspects’ heads from hitting the top of the police car as they’re lowered into the backseat.
Trump continues to offer proof that he is a white supremacist. His hatred for all minorities is evident every time he speaks or tweets.
Eight percent of all men killed in the U.S. are killed by cops,” Frank Edwards, an author on the study and a postdoctoral associate at Cornell University’s Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research, said. “That’s huge, and that number is even higher in some places than others. That’s really striking, to think of police as a major source of homicide deaths. It’s a public health problem.”
I have not been able to trust law enforcement for years; I read too much. I am a white 72-year-old man. It is all too easy to understand why black men are fearful of and are unable to trust their local police and sheriffs.
Here’s the saddest part. When police murder a black man they seldom receive punishment which fits the crime. They may be suspended, or lose their jobs, but they are seldom prosecuted.
Time for change? You’re damn right.
