Massachusetts Takes Action to Protect Women Against a Justice Kavanaugh

Abortion Rights

“The Negating Archaic Statutes Targeting Young Women Act;” aka the “NASTY Women Act” was passed last week by the State Legislature in Massachusetts. The bill, whose name is a callback to Trump’s now infamous remarks during the 2016 presidential campaign to candidate Hillary Clinton, will protect the women of Massachusetts if Trump’s Supreme Court reverses Roe v Wade.

The House passed the bill by a vote of 138-9, and the Senate passed it unanimously. The NASTY Women Act will replace archaic laws passed long ago; some 137 years in the state’s past.

Republican Governor, Charlie Baker, will sign the law next week, and will revoke “laws punishing adultery and fornication; criminalizing abortion and distributing information about abortion; requiring abortions be performed in a hospital; and prohibiting doctors from prescribing contraception to unmarried women.”

“I think people are beginning to realize these are strange times we live in. Nothing is impossible, and we’ve got to have a ‘plan B.’ If these laws are enforced, what do we do?” Chandler, a Democrat, says. “We’re not willing to sit back and say, ‘Well, it’s not going to happen here.’ The word for that is denial.”

Trump and his traitorous party continues to wage a war on women. They have a problem. Our nation is composed of more women than men at 50.9 percent. In addition, more women are registering to vote. More women are running for office in 2018 than men. Our colleges and universities have more women registered for classes than men. In the 2018 midterm Trump supporters will have no effect on the results if women and younger Americans go to the polls on November 6th. Millennials are now the largest voting bloc in the nation.

The rights of all Americans will be protected if Republicans are voted out of office and Independents and Democrats regain control of the House and Senate. This Congress would address the important issues of education, healthcare, immigration, and women’s rights. It would protect the rights of the LGBTQ community. It would pass legislation which would help reduce a growing poverty in America and alter Trump’s executive orders which protect the wealthy. Income inequality would become an issue and would be addressed seriously without the interference of the right wing which continues to protect special interests.

Trump’s disreputable selections for his cabinet, closest advisers, and Supreme Court Justices can be nullified if a party which serves the people; all of the people; is in control of the Legislative Branch of our nation’s government.
