Republican Hypocrisy in the 21st Century

Kavanaugh

Unlike today’s elected officials in Washington, our founding fathers had great wisdom. They created a ‘democratic republic’ with three separate but equal branches of government; each with their own specific powers.

The executive branch consists of a president and his advisers. He or she has the power to decree certain executive orders, negotiate agreements and treaties with foreign nations, and veto legislation he or she decides is unacceptable to the current administration. He or she is intended to be the representative of all Americans to our allies and our enemies.

The legislative branch is composed of two ‘houses.’ In the senate there are currently 100 members; two from each state. Each member is elected for six years; one-third of which face reelection every two years. Other than writing and passing legislation, the senate is responsible for confirming or rejecting nominees by the president for positions in government and for the Supreme Court.

The House of Representatives currently has 435 members. This number is based on the population of each state. The entire House faces reelection every two years. The House has unique powers in addition to writing and passing bills created in either house. They can override the veto of a president, and they can bring impeachment charges against a corrupt or immoral president.

The judicial branch of government is the Supreme Court. It is currently composed of nine members who are appointed for life. The intent of our founding fathers is that it would not be political. Its purpose was to decide the validity of laws solely based on their relationship to the Constitution. This is not the Court in 2018.

The Court has become extremely political.

Trump’s current nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, is a tool of the right-wing. He is under heavy scrutiny based on accusations from three women that he sexually assaulted them. Kavanaugh decided to defend himself. His decision to take this action by appearing on the right-wing propaganda machine, FOX Noise, proves that he would place the Republican Party ahead of the Constitution.

Kavanaugh would bow to Trump’s every demand; joining the House and Senate which are controlled by GOP politicians. Trump has established himself as an autocrat with full cooperation from his hypocritical party.

Only the American people have more power than the executive and legislative branches. There is an election every two years, and our votes can alter the direction of the nation. Returning control of the legislative branch of government to Independents and Democrats will veto Trump’s power to destroy our freedoms and our democratic form of government.

Your vote on November 6th is critical to the future of yourself and those you love. We can take back our government and elect leaders who will serve us and not rule over us. Please vote and encourage everyone you know to do the same; the future of the United States of America is literally in your hands.
