The Kavanaugh debacle has proven much about this Republican Party in name only. If you are a woman, a minority, a Muslim, a Jew, or a member of the working class, the right-wing is your enemy. A war was declared by these ambitious and greedy politicians nearly 30 years ago.
Christine Blasey Ford offered convincing and heartfelt testimony before the Senate Judicial Committee today. Chuck Grassley, Rep. from Iowa, and Lindsey Graham, Rep. from South Carolina embarrassed themselves, Republican members of the Senate, and the entire Washington establishment by supporting an alleged sexual predator and condemning a female professor who showed great courage while offering her tales of sexual assault while a young woman in her formative high school years.
Today the entire Republican Party offered irrefutable facts that they are sexists and women are considered to be second class citizens.
The greatest problem in Washington; the reason why our government has become dysfunctional is demonstrated by the demographics of our elected officials.
Although our nation is composed of nearly 51 percent women, only 14 percent of the seats in the House and the Senate are occupied by female legislators. The average age of all Americans is 37.8 years of age, but the age of congress is nearly 60 years of age.
Our government is out of touch with the American people. We can change this enormous imbalance.
Let’s use the example of the outbursts of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham during the Kavanaugh hearings today, and the response of the American people.
Defending Kavanaugh against the allegations of Professor Ford, Graham’s tirade began with embarrassing remarks and escalated into a misogynistic rant which should have embarrassed all men and women in America.
“I know I’m a single white male from South Carolina, and I’m told I should shut up, but I will not shut up, if that’s OK. Because I got here the same way anyone else did,” said Graham, before launching into a long-winded speech.
Responses were immediate and damning to the sexist Senator from South Carolina.
“I am a single white man and I have been told to shut up, but I will not shut up. I got here the same way we all did and I will speak for my people.” – @LindseyGrahamSC
“No, it might be smart to shut up Senator Graham.”
“Definitely being reminded of why people were telling Lindsey Graham to shut up.”
A little satire: Oh eat it, Lindsey Graham: “I am a white man from South Carolina and I know I’m supposed to shut up but I’m not going to shut up.”
“We really need to give more air time to white guys to express themselves. We must stop silencing white dudes. They are so oppressed.”
“White men make up about 75% of Congress. Is it the single part that makes Lindsey Graham part of a marginalized community?”
“No @LindseyGrahamSC , your despicable behavior and comments send a msg to all sexual assault victims that they should just shut up & stay silent b/c u won’t believe them anyway if it’s not politically convenient.
“Nice way to stoke more racism & sexism Senator.”
There were many, many more.
Lindsey Graham is typical of right-wing politicians today. Sad, so sad.
