Republicans cannot campaign on the issues. They oppose virtually everything which is important to the majority of the American people.
Only eight Republican senators are up for reelection in November. One is Dean Heller, in my own state of Nevada. Another is the “most hated senator in Washington,” Ted Cruz. Both men are facing a tough fight. Democrat Jacky Rosen is leading in the polls by a very small margin in Nevada, and Beto O’Rourke currently trails Cruz by a few points in the very red state of Texas.
In both states the campaigns of Democrats have been about the issues. Republicans are resorting to the only way they know how to win elections, with personal attacks, name calling, and blatant lies.
Although Cruz is disliked by senators from both sides of the aisle, the Republican Party is desperate to retain his seat. Although Trump and Cruz hate each other, your illegitimate president will be campaigning for the incompetent Cruz. Current Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been attacking Beto O’Rourke with falsehoods and fear tactics.
“He’s been a cult-like, very popular figure the way that he’s run the campaign, but you don’t vote on cult, you don’t vote on personality when you get to the U.S. Senate. You vote on the issues,” Abbott said on “Fox & Friends.”
“Texans are hostile to any candidate who’s talking about raising their taxes,” he said. “Texans are hostile to anybody talking about big government programs run their lives.”
The reason O’Rourke is making this a tight race is his primary campaign tactic; he has traveled to every district in Texas to talk to the people about the issues most important to them. Cruz is betting on the fact that Democrats do not win in Texas. His ego may result in a loss for the Republican Party, but a win for the good people of Texas.
Cruz has accomplished nothing in nearly six years. His ambition is to win the presidency, not to do the right thing for his country. He is also the biggest hypocrite in the Republican Party. Trump viciously attacked him, his wife, and his family during the 2016 campaign, but bowed to him after he won the Electoral College on November 8, 2016.
Both Heller and Cruz must lose their bid for reelection. The people of Nevada and Texas deserve representation which will serve them and not special interests.
