Monday night’s football game revealed an enormous change in the NFL. Those who are considered elite in quarterback ratings witnessed a change in a the most profitable sports franchise in history; the NFL.
Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Andrew Luck, and other highly rated QB’s in professional football will be left behind by a 23-year-old man, and other rookie quarterbacks around the league. Patrick Mahomes has established himself as the greatest quarterback in 2018.
In his first three games as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs he set an all-time record by throwing 13 touchdown passes and winning all three games. Last night he faced a strong defense in Denver in a contest with the Broncos. Denver scored first, and the game was tied multiple times.
Although Mahomes was harassed by the Bronco defense throughout the game, he found a few unusual ways to complete passes for first downs and keep the Chiefs in the game. When the game ended, the Chiefs were victorious over the Broncos by a score of 27-23.
In truth, this was Mahomes’ greatest win to date. Playing in a hostile environment against one of the best defenses in professional football, he accomplished what all great quarterbacks have done throughout the league’s history; he won the game.
I have never been a fan who believes that early success by a virtual rookie deserves great praise or predictions for future success. This young man is an exception. He will lead his team to a first-place finish in the AFL West, and into the playoffs.
This was Mahomes’ first ‘comeback’ win in the fourth quarter. He plays at a level far beyond the age of 23.
I have been a Pittsburgh Steeler fan for more than 40 years. I am struggling this year. It is very exciting to see a first-year quarterback take the attention away from Brady and others who are on their way out of the NFL. Mahomes is the future of the NFL and he deserves every accolade offered by the sportswriters across America. I will never miss a game when he is the starting quarterback.
