Our founding fathers believed that the most important part of the Constitution was the first amendment. It guarantees the rights of free speech, and to protest grievances committed by our government. Most importantly it guarantees our right to vote in a free and fair election.
The Electoral College removes the expectation that every vote counts. The perfect example is the 2016 election. Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin gave Trump a controversial win on November 8th. If you live in those three states and voted for Hillary Clinton, your vote did not count.
This was not the intention of our founding fathers. The president should be elected by all Americans.
An interesting fact. If the Electoral College did not exist, a Democrat would have been in the White House since 1993. Bill Clinton won the popular vote in 1992 and 1996. Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000 and “W” would not have run for reelection in 2004. Barrack Obama won the popular vote in 2008 and 2012, and Hillary Clinton soundly defeated Trump in the popular vote in 2016.
Our nation would not have been in the mess it is today if the Electoral College did not exist.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose dramatic win in New York’s 14 congressional district set the tone for the 2018 election, stated the truth about the unconstitutional existence of the Electoral College.
“It is well past time we eliminate the Electoral College, a shadow of slavery’s power on America today that undermines our nation as a democratic republic,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
The people did not elect Trump. A small group of men and women who promised to abide by an archaic and unconstitutional law gave away our nation to a failed, immoral, and corrupt businessman. This must not happen again.
If you believe that your vote should count in every presidential election, call your congressmen and demand that they listen to you.
