When it was announced that Secretary of Defense Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis was resigning, Trump praised him for his service and said his departure would take place in February. Mattis’ letter of resignation was a dark prophecy for our nation’s future under the policies of Donald J. Trump. A big shock; Trump did not take it well. Mattis will be officially fired on January 1st.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a statement that he was “distressed that [Mattis] is resigning due to sharp differences with the president on … key aspects of America’s global leadership.”
One of only two qualified and sane members of Trump’s administration, Mattis’ departure is causing concern within his own party. McConnell was joined by other Republican leaders who expressed their concerns on Twitter.
George Conway, husband of Trump’s paid liar, Kellyanne Conway.
“Not a word of praise for Trump. Speaks volumes.”
Marco Rubio
“Just read Gen. Mattis resignation letter. It makes it abundantly clear that we are headed towards a series of grave policy errors which will endanger our nation, damage our alliances & empower our adversaries.”
Rick Wilson
“Donald Trump just lost the most significant, stabilizing, and competent member of his entire administration. I’m legitimately frightened for the country.”
Bill Kristol
“Never been more alarmed for the nation since coming to D.C. over three decades ago.”
Representative Mike Coffman
“Mattis has been the adult in the room when it comes to national security policy and I find his impending departure alarming. For the last two years he has been a buffer between the chaos of the White House and our military.”
Senator Ben Sasse
“This is a sad day. General Mattis was giving advice POTUS needs to hear. Mattis rightly believes that Russia & China are adversaries, and that we are at war with jihadists across the globe who plot to kill Americans. Isolationism is a weak strategy that will harm Americans…”
There are many more, all saying the same thing.
The difference between myself and millions of other patriotic Americans, and the Republican Party is that we have been afraid for our beloved country since November 9, 2016. We not only knew that Trump was dangerously incompetent and incapable of leading our nation, we admitted it.
Finally, Trump’s announcement that Mattis would leave on January 1st was the result of another temper tantrum by the baby in the Oval Office. Trump is weak and a loser.
Vote on November 3, 2020; this is our country, not theirs.
