Stacey Abrams; a Rising Star in the Democratic Party?

Abrams

I hope and pray that our nation’s government will become representative of our nation’s population. That would require a 51 percent majority of women in the House and the Senate. Since 1789 men have failed to place the people first. Preparation for war, insuring that big business continued to profit from our capitalistic society, and securing support for elections were more important than the future of America, and the welfare of all Americans.

The average age of all Americans is 37.8 years of age. Currently the average age in Congress is nearly 60. How can a sixty+ year old white man relate to a 38-year-old man or woman who is a member of a population which is growing in diversity?

Stacey Abrams lost a close election on November 3, 2018. She was seeking the governorship of Georgia. Her candidate was the Secretary of State who controlled the election process. Ms. Abrams barely lost a closely contested recount.

Democratic leadership selected her to offer the rebuttal to Trump’s State of the Union speech Tuesday evening. But that’s not the end of the story. She has been encouraged to run for the Senate in 2020.

Ms. Abrams is a 45-year-old African American. If she chooses to run for the senate, she will likely challenge incumbent Republican David Perdue who is a devoted and loyal supporter of Donald John Trump. It is now obvious that Trump supporters have placed themselves in a very precarious position for reelection. The orange man’s popularity rating is reaching an all-time low. With the two most important demographics, millennials and women, polls reveal that he is nearing single digits.

Is it possible that a black woman could win the senate in one of the reddest states in America? That is yet to be decided by voters and by Ms. Abrams herself. She is not certain if running for the senate is in her best interests. She recently ended a contested campaign and to jump back into another highly publicized campaign would be exhausting.

As a patriotic American, I hope she decides to fight for the people of Georgia one more time.
