The title of this article is the title of a New York Times article written today. It is fair and mostly unbiased. However, for the last 30 years our government has moved so far to the right it’s within range of becoming “plutocratic fascism.” To save the America of our founding fathers, we must have a huge swing back to the left when people were more important than the profits of big business.

The process has begun to take America back in the House. Proposals to eliminate ICE, the Electoral College, and to add Laws which would force our government to save our nation and our planet, called the “Green New Deal” have begun. In addition, several of our newest members in Congress have suggested that capitalism has failed the majority and a new form of Democratic Socialism should be established.

During the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the focus was on the working man. From December 7, 1941 until now it moved away from placing the majority of Americans first. Rebuilding our nation spawned an increase in capitalism and the focus on profits as the people became an after-thought. Today one entire party refuses to serve the people. Polls on issues including healthcare, fair taxation, the rights of the LGBTQ community, gun control, and the rights of women to make decisions about their own health reveal that the majority of voters favor laws or changes in laws which would benefit 99 percent of Americans. Republicans are owned by special interests and vote as they are instructed to by lobbyists. They ignore the needs and wishes of the people.

Therefore, how far to the left will Democrats go? I hope far enough to support the most recent polls which reveal that most Americans are progressive and denounce the regressive policies of Trump and his cronies.

Only one candidate currently supports most of my wishes, Kamala Harris. She is under 60, a liberal on most issues, intelligent, tough, fair, and the fact that she could be our first female president is exciting. Old, white men have harmed our nation for the last 243 years. Time for real change.
