Republicans have a serious problem. Their base is dwindling. The truth is that old, white Americans are dying and America is becoming a younger, more diverse nation. The average age in our nation is now 37.8 years of age.
This fact began revealing itself in the 2016 election. Russian interference, resulting in a lower voter turnout, and other issues, gave Trump the gift of the presidency from the Electoral College. He was crushed in the popular vote. This was not only expected, it was interesting when the demographics were reported. More women went to the polls than expected. The number of younger men and women, and Americans of color rose slightly.
In 2018 women showed up in huge numbers to vote. An impressively large number of women were victorious in local, state, and federal elections. It was surprising to note that a large number of younger Americans, and people of color, made the 2018 election the largest voter turnout in a midterm election in more than a century.
What should we expect in 2020? Let’s look at the demographics who will make a difference.
First, let me tell you the truth. Those who consider themselves Independents will decide the outcome. So called “hardcore” Republicans and Democrats will continue their ignorance and vote for a party candidate and refuse to choose the most qualified candidate. This is why Independents will elect our next president.
Republicans will once again rely on white men and women who call themselves “Christians.” Republicans did gain one demographic; white supremacists who are some of Trump’s most ardent supporters.
Women will overwhelmingly support the Democratic candidate. This was revealed on January 21st in Washington when an extraordinarily large number of women and the men who support them marched in our nation’s capital.
Minorities, who have been attacked constantly by Trump and his circle of sinners, will refuse to allow Republicans to wage their war against them any longer.
Working men and women, who have been harmed by Trump’s tariffs and tax plan, will vote for themselves and their future.
Millennials, age 18-34, have come to realize that they must take charge of their own future and will once again come to the polls in large numbers. They have several freshman congressmen and women representing their age group who are fighting for them every day, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib, and they are Democrats.
Non-Christians, including Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and others will reject the orange man who has attempted to force all Americans to belong to one religion based on fairytales and fantasy. The Christian religious right is one of the owners of the GOP.
Finally, new voters, who watched young men and women of their own age march on Washington in March of 2017 to protest the failures of Trump and his Republicans to pass new gun laws based on logic and common sense will reject any politician who supports the NRA gun lobby and takes money from them for their campaigns. That includes all right-wing politicians. The slaughter of 17 students and educators at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Valentine’s Day, 2017 was literally the last straw. They decided that “good wishes and prayers” are not enough.
So, who will vote for Trump? We know that he and 539 other billionaires, and 11.1 million millionaires will choose Donny Boy. He has passed laws and issued executive orders which protect them and ignore everyone else. Real Americans will turn up in record numbers to ensure that a traitor like Donald Trump will never be allowed to wear the label of President of the United States again.
