Washington Is not Listening; Let’s Give Politicians Two Options; Pay Attention to Us or Go Home

On November 9, 2016 Republican politicians were forced to make one of two choices; support the men and women who elected them, or support the least qualified and least moral president in history. They made the wrong decision.

Trump’s campaign was seldom about the issues, but the few times he screamed about them, there were only a few; hate minorities, hate Muslims, and what he falsely claimed was a dismal economy.

His ignorant supporters continue to hate minorities and Muslims. They continue to scream “build that wall” at every rally. They are so uninformed that they refuse the truth. A wall would be the least effective solution to achieve border security. Existing walls have been breached, or tunnels burrowed under them. Trump must understand that this is the 21st century.

Trump inherited an economy in full recovery. President Obama faced challenges no other president in history was forced to address. Two unwinnable wars and an economy nearing a depression placed a huge burden on his administration. Once again, a Republican president had failed to govern our nation effectively.

Trump continues to brag about the economy, although each of the successes he claims as his own began under President Obama’s administration. The truth is that “Trumponomics” has failed miserably. His “tax reform” is a gift to himself and 539 other billionaires and 11.1 million millionaires. This law is harming the middle class and small businesses. Our nation’s debt continues to grow. His unilateral decision to implement tariffs on imports has been a disaster. Instead of decreasing the trade deficit, it increased by more than seven-percent while farmers begged for a bailout of $14 billion. His continuation of the Republican plan of “trickle-down economics” failed as badly as it did during the Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43 administrations.

Washington is not listening to the issues most Americans consider vital to their future. One group has decided to make them listen or remove them from office.

Women outnumber men 51-49 percent. Their rise to power has been slow. I believe it began in 1992 during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. A young woman, Anita Hill, was testifying about Thomas’ sexual deviant behavior. The senate’s “good old boy” club, led by Joe Biden, belittled and demeaned her testimony. These men obviously considered her to be a liar and a second-class citizen. Thomas remains on the Supreme Court today.

Finally, in 2018, prior to the midterm election, women organized and helped remove Republicans from office across the nation. Inspired by the “Women’s March on Washington” on January 21, 2017, they continued to bond across all 50 states. On November 6, 2018, more women were elected in local, state, and federal elections than at any other time in history. Democrats regained control of the House, and will likely dominate the senate in 2020.

Most of this is attributable to the continued efforts of women to enhance voter registration, and encourage younger women and men to become first time candidates.

Today more women are registered to vote than men. Women are filing for candidacy than at any other time in history. For the first time more women are registered in colleges and universities than men. Today women are rejecting traditional marriage and focusing on their education and their careers than ever before. Women are leading the second American Revolution.

For far too long men have refused to offer women full equality at home and in the workplace. Today they are no longer asking; they are taking what belongs to them.
