Possibly the most controversial politician today is Ilhan Omar; Democratic Representative from Minnesota. She knew from day one that she would be a target of right-wing extremists; she is one of two first time Muslim women in our nation’s government. However, when she had the courage to speak the truth about Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu, that was too much for Republican bigots, including Meghan McCain.
McCain is the daughter of the late John McCain, the last real Republican in the GOP, and a co-host of “The View.” Last week she was a guest on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” After Meyers questioned McCain about her comments about Ms. Omar, the discussion became tense. Meyers pointed to “dangerous comments” made on The View, offering the fact that Ms. Omar has received multiple death threats. McCain accused Meyers of being her “publicist.”.
McCain’s husband, Ben Domenech, who founded the racist right-wing publication “The Federalist,” offered a crude and unwarranted tweet defending his bigoted wife. He attacked Meyers, calling him and “a**hole” and “a piece of sh*t” among other things; (important note: those tweets were eventually deleted).
We should all remember that before Trump it was rare to hear or read such vile and cowardly attacks on members of the opposite party, or anyone who might criticize the words or actions of another. Today it is commonplace because your illegitimate and illiterate president does it every day. I have become ashamed of my country because those who represent us have become an embarrassment. Civility and dignity have been tossed aside.
Finally, the right-wing is worthless. If they’re not lying to us, they simply don’t know what they’re talking about.
Blindly supporting Israel is extreme ignorance. Those of us who read every day are aware that under Benjamin Netanyahu, the nation of Israel has become a country where only Jews are welcome; similar to Trump’s efforts to create a “whites only America.” In addition, it is Netanyahu who has prevented peace in the Middle East for years. He has not only refused to negotiate with Palestinian leaders, he denies their existence. With the exception of Israel and the United States, nearly every member of the United Nations supports Palestinian Statehood.
I admire the courage of our new members Congress. For decades “politispeak” has been the norm. Telling the truth completely, and answering direct questions is refreshing. We need more women like Ilhan Omar in Washington.
Tell everyone; “The Truth Lives Here.”
