Although the polls continue to reveal that America is more conservative than progressive, liberals are gaining ground rapidly. The latest Gallup poll shows only a nine percent gap between the two; the lowest percentage since polling began on the issue.
Two facts not registered in the polls. If they are united, two demographics could control all future elections in America. Women compose 51 percent of our nation’s population. Millennials are the largest voting bloc in our country; replacing yours truly and the other baby boomers.
Women support social issues; men favor big business and planning for wars. Social programs are considered progressive. Building a larger war machine and protecting the profits of corporations are conservative beliefs.
Younger Americans are supportive of more liberal ideas. They are less likely to be religious; are concerned more about their quality of life and less about money; they do not see color or consider women inferior to men.
Like their counterparts on the right side of the aisle, long-time Democrats in the House are out of touch with the majority.
Greg Meeks is a Democrat enjoying his 21st year as a Congressman. He and other multi-term Democrats are standing with Nancy Pelosi who is currently feuding with younger Representatives; primarily four “freshmen;” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib.
“Primaries go two ways,” he told the Daily News. “If someone picks a fight with somebody else, you fight back. That’s what my parents told me.”
He added, “If you get in the ring, expect that people are going to start throwing punches.”
Pelosi is part of the old Democratic Party which over the last 30+ years moved too far to the right. She and other “old timers” strayed from the ideals of Franklin Delano Roosevelt while listening to failed Republicans and refused to be proud of the term “liberal.”
It was liberals who created change in America; change which addressed the issues of the class struggle in America, civil rights, women’s rights, equal treatment of the LGBTQ community, freedom to practice the religion of their choice or none at all, and continue to fight for an increase in the minimum wage. We liberals also believe that Trump must be impeached and be held accountable for his crimes against the American people.
One last thing; something many of you already know if you read me regularly. Congress must be forced to accept term limits. Our nation’s people should be represented by their own. The average age of all Americans is 37.8 years of age. The average age in congress is nearly 60. America is becoming more diverse far more quickly than anyone could have imagined 50 years ago. Congress is primarily composed of old, white, fake-Christian men who have harmed our nation for the past 243 years.
Time for REAL change.
