Neil Gorsuch should not be a Justice on the Supreme Court. Brett Kavanaugh should not be a Justice on the Supreme Court. Clarence Thomas should not be a Justice on the Supreme Court. Merrick Garland should be a Justice on the Supreme Court.

Republican Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, violated the intent of the Constitution and stacked the court in favor of Republican partisanship. When President Obama nominated Merrick Garland for the Court, McConnell refused to conduct hearings in the senate, although Judge Garland was a highly respected and qualified candidate about which both parties found agreement.

Sadly, few Americans know the history of our “check and balance system,” and how the signers of the Constitution  viewed the three “separate but equal” branches of our government.

The executive branch of our government; the presidency: was given broad powers to protect and serve the people of the United States of America.

The legislative branch, congress, was given even more power to prevent the president from becoming a king or a dictator.

The Supreme Court was unique. It was intended to be apolitical and its only function was to decide if laws created by the other two branches were supported by the Constitution.

For over three decades the creation of our founding fathers has been altered. When a Republican became our nation’s president, a Republican controlled congress bowed to his every demand; this continues today. Right-wing politicians surrendered their power and their principles to support a Republican president.

Republicans realized that their agenda; to support special interests; demanded that the Supreme Court became politicized.

Today’s Republicans in name only have followed the beliefs and agenda of their party’s failed leaders. America’s government is now dysfunctional.

Let’s be perfectly clear. America’s democratic government cannot succeed if honest deliberation and compromise is non-existent. This is the current situation in Washington and the reason for this failure of government can be placed squarely on McConnell and former Speakers of the House, Paul Ryan, and his predecessor, John Boehner.

McConnell is an extremist; an old man who cares nothing about his country and places his personal ambitions and his party ahead of the United States of America.

Ryan and Boehner allowed the extremists in their party to control the House. The GOP had moved so far to the right is refused not only to deliberate with Democrats, they refused to cooperate with members of their own party who did not agree with their anti-American views.

The men who created the United States of America established laws, principles, and morals which would define their new nation. Today’s fake-Republicans reject these parameters. They believe that their party and the success of special interests are their only priority.

At the center of these treasonous actions is the Supreme Court. I am uncertain if this serious situation can ever be repaired. Intended to be removed from the political discourse in Washington, the SCOTUS has become a tool for right-wing politicians. A path to the destruction of democracy and the Constitution have become a reality.

The only way to counteract this fact is with your vote. Remove the enemy from our government. Vote all Republicans out of office in 2020 and save America.
