“Divide and Conquer;” the Strategy of Donald Trump’s Reelection Campaign

Donald Trump is not a very intelligent man, but he has stumbled across a tactic which has served him well. Trump has intentionally divided our nation. At no time since the Civil War have the American people become as polarized as they are today. Trump’s supporters choose to be ignorant and deny the facts related to his criminal actions, his support of white supremacy, and his xenophobia. Informed Americans, this writer included, believe that Trump is unqualified and unfit to be America’s legitimate president.

There is no question that a large number of Trump’s loyal supporters, I often refer to as a “cult,” share his anti-American beliefs. Their own remarks often reveal racist, and Islamophobic attitudes; these too divide the American people.

Trump’s lies are constant and designed to mislead and control the men and women who share his vile beliefs. He plays on emotions of anger and hatred; the greatest weakness of human beings.

Trump’s attacks against Representative Ilhan Omar are baseless and intended to debase a member of Congress. His racist rants are unforgivable, and the subject of many articles reporting that words and phrases used by the orange man are commonly used in vile attacks against men and women of color. Ms. Omar responded.

“Throughout history, demagogues have used state power to target minority communities and political enemies, often culminating in state violence. Today, we face that threat in our own country, where the president of the United States is using the influence of our highest office to mount racist attacks on communities across the land.”

Trump, says Omar, has “weaponized division,” using racial division to prevent Americans from coming together as a community.

This is Trump’s single tactic; divide conquer. He cannot speak about the issues; he has failed to address a single issue important to most Americans in two-and-one-half years.

The most ridiculous falsehood Trump constantly regurgitates is about his “accomplishments.” The Truth is that every positive situation during Trump’s tenure is the result of previous agreements negotiated by our 44th president and his administration. Trump has done nothing with the exception of golf, party at Mar-a-Lago, and watch television; all at taxpayer expense. White House staff offers reports about Trump walking out of meetings after becoming bored and going to another room to watch television. If it’s not about him, he does not care.
