“Thoughts and Prayers;” More Failures by the Right-Wing

Trump lied again. He promised support for a minimal change in our gun laws. He told the world that he supported comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases after the slaughter of 31 people in El Paso and Dayton. I knew it was a lie; I know Trump better than anyone in America because I am willing to tell the truth.

NRA gun lobby officials began a desperate effort to threaten Republican politicians with lower campaign contributions if they supported any change in our gun laws. This included your illegitimate president. Today they all bowed to one of their owners.

This is what Trump said immediately after the slaughters in El Paso and Dayton.

“Well I’m looking to do background checks,” Trump said to reporters. “I think background checks are important. I don’t want to put guns into the hands of mentally unstable people or people with rage or hate.”

This is what Trump is saying today after communicating with Wayne LaPierre and other NRA leaders.

But in the weeks since, Trump said he was “very concerned” with the Second Amendment and claimed, “people don’t realize we have very strong background checks right now.”

None of this surprised me, and if you don’t understand this, you need to get a life. Every American has a responsibility to become involved in the future of his or her nation.

Trump’s cronies attempted to claim that this was not a feeble explanation for his lies. However, Democrats refused to allow him to escape the facts.

“We’ve seen this movie before: President Trump, feeling public pressure in the immediate aftermath of a horrible shooting, talks about doing something meaningful to address gun violence,” Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York said in a statement on Monday. “But inevitably, he backtracks in response to pressure from the NRA and the hard-right.”

Schumer also expressed the lack of compassion by the entire Republican Party who continues to offer “thoughts and prayers” and nothing else to the victims and their families.

“These retreats from President Trump are not only disappointing but also heartbreaking, particularly for the families of the victims of gun violence,” Schumer added.

Republicans are more concerned about the amount of campaign contributions from the NRA than the safety of the American people.

Trump and his cowardly party are complicit in every mass shooting since their illegitimate president’s tiny inauguration in 2017. They obey the orders of the NRA gun lobby which represents gun manufacturers and gun sellers, and not the American people.

It is a very sad fact that our nation is the only nation in the developed world which has a serious and preventable gun problem. Wake-up and deny the failed right-wing it’s lies and dependence on the gun lobby.

Tell everyone “the truth lives here.”
