I and Millions of other Registered Democrats Support a Progressive Candidate

Nancy Pelosi, and other old, stale Democrats failed to pay attention to the 2018 midterm elections. America spoke loudly and clearly. By their votes the majority revealed that they support more progressive candidates. While in office Trump has been undoing the advancements made by his predecessors; some for as long as 60 years. This is not America in the 21st century and he has proven that he is not an American president.

Recent surveys continue to support the results of the elections. Most Democrats and Independents favor issues including Medicare for all, free or low-cost Education, changes in our gun laws, and complete equality for women.

Only three Democratic candidates support their party’s voters; Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris. Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and many other centrist Democrats must join younger and more liberal party leaders or get out of the way. For approximately 20 years Democrats moved further to the right; they have become the Republicans of the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s.

As an Independent I voted for members of both parties and Independents until 2000. I was aware that George W. Bush posed a danger to our nation’s future. If the Electoral College did not exist, and if the right-wing biased Supreme Court had not gifted Bush with a win in 2000, there would have been no wars in Afghanistan, or Iraq, and the attacks on 9/11 may have been stopped. The great recession of 2008 would never have happened.

The Democratic Party must move back to the left; the party of Franklin Delano Roosevelt must return and give our nation an opportunity to become great.

All three progressive candidates are very qualified to become our 46th president and would defeat Trump in 2020. The reason I support Kamala Harris instead of Elizabeth Warren is age. The largest voting bloc in America is 18-34; we call them millennials. I believe that old, white men have harmed our nation for far too long. I also believe that a president who is closer to our nation’s average age of nearly 38 would be more representative of our nation’s younger and increasingly diverse population.

Finally, the latest straw poll shows Senator Warren leading all other candidates by 22 points. She definitely fills all of my requirements with the exception of age. My three primary qualifications are that the Democratic candidate be a woman, progressive, and served in the federal government.

It’s time that America’s leader is a woman. She will place people before profit and peace before war.

Tell everyone “the truth lives here.”
