Kentucky Mother Tells Moscow Mitch, “Dump the NRA”

Domestic terrorism affects every state in America. A mass shooting is defined as three or more individuals wounded or killed in a single incident. Nearly one month ago there were already 250 mass shootings in America during 2019. The media fails to inform our nation’s people. They report the greatest tragedies like El Paso and Dayton, but they fail to report the fact that our nation’s people are in danger every day when the go to work, school, a movie, shop at a mall, attend a concert, or go to church.

Moscow Mitch McConnell was elected by the people of Kentucky. One woman is begging him to place the people of her state in priority over the NRA gun lobby.

Anita Franklin’s 21-year-old son was murdered in a drive by shooting in 2014. The perpetrators were between the ages of 15 and 17.

Ms. Franklin is asking for the minimum. “I’ve said it doesn’t matter what political party you are affiliated with. It’s a people issue,” she said. But it does matter right now, because it’s McConnell and the Republicans who are preventing action. So she delivered a letter to McConnell this week at his Lexington office signed by more than 1,200 other survivors and victims of gun violence. She wore the same dress that she wore to her son’s funeral to deliver her letter.

Her message to him is heartbreakingly simple. “So we as mothers, we as survivors, we’re drawing the line. We’re saying, ‘Okay Mitch McConnell, and the rest-the folks in Congress, we have done our part. We have sacrificed our children, we have sacrificed our lives.’ I’m out here every day working to say ‘Kids, put your guns down. Quit saying rest in peace, say live in peace,'” said Anita.

She’s just “asking him to bring the background checks and to bring the red flag law to the table” with the letter. “It’s our job that if we know that someone has issues going on, that we report that and that there’s a flag and that if they trying to purchase a firearm—and it’s not even to commit mass murders. It’s to protect them. They may be suicidal,” she said.

When a major problem has such a simple solution it seems logical that everyone would support it; not Republicans. The Party of No will serve one of their owners rather than protect the American people. The NRA donates millions of dollars to Republican candidates every election year.

The right-wing is more concerned with the profits of gun manufacturers and gun sellers than fighting domestic terrorism, the greatest danger to all Americans.

The old white racist who wears the title of Senate Majority Leader must be retired. Moscow Mitch has failed the people of Kentucky and the United States for nearly 35 very long years. Let’s rid our nation of the man who made our government dysfunctional, and is the poster boy for Congressional term limits.

Tell everyone, “the truth lives here.”
