It’s happening; as I predicted. Call us ‘liberals or progressives,’ we are taking back our party and our country. The party of FDR will take control of our government in 2020.
For the last 30 years our nation’s people have been moving to the right and away from the policies which made us the most respected and richest nation in the world. Since Trump’s election Americans are moving back to the left. People will become the priority. The needs and wishes of all 320 million Americans will be addressed by a government which no longer primarily supports special interests and the military.
Both “millennials” and “generation ‘Z’” are more progressive than their parents. Together they will compose 40 percent of the total electorate in 2020. More than one-half of all women are progressive thinkers, and they compose nearly 52 percent of the population.
When the Democratic Primary season began, every poll showed Joe Biden leading all other candidates by double figures. I predicted that he would never be the party’s nominee. Things have changed. Elizabeth Warren has become the “tortoise who will probably win the race.”
The only positive effect of Trump’s illegitimate presidency is that he created an awareness; gave us a picture of how bad our nation could become under the wrong leader. His reactionary policies have moved America backwards and began a march to the extreme right. Extreme nationalism, isolationism, xenophobia, white supremacy, homophobia, and misogyny are policies which should not exist in the 21st century.
Most Americans are ready for real change. The last president to really fight for the people; all of the people; was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His policies supported the working class in their struggle to achieve the American dream. It was under FDR that social security began. It was a perfect program until politicians began to steal funds for their personal projects. It was self-funded and self-sustaining until corrupt men and a few women in Washington weakened a system which I and my wife, among millions of other Americans, rely on to survive.
The facts hated by the right-wing and their propaganda machine, Fox Noise, prove that real change is mandatory. Capitalism has failed the working class. The gap in income inequality continues to widen. Healthcare for all is a right, not a privilege. Free or affordable education for all is a priority. This will not only lower the poverty rate and reduce the gap between low-income and middle class, it will serve America. Today many of our greatest minds will not be able to attend our colleges and universities because of money. This fact greatly harms America’s future.
How do we do this. It’s very simple. The same way we pay for all of the “free” stuff Republicans want. The same way we pay for wars, walls, Wall Street bailouts, and tax cuts for the rich and corporations. We stop wasting money. We force the wealthy to pay their fair share. We stop allowing the Pentagon to waste 50 cents of every dollar on toys and programs which never work. We stop the Healthcare industry and big Pharma from experiencing huge profit margins at the expense of the American people. No one should lose their lives because they cannot afford the best possible medical services available.
Liberals will restore dignity and respect to the United States of America. And with all America’s people as the focus, we just might become a great nation.
