The latest major controversy related to Trump’s criminal actions involves a whistle-blower within the intelligence department. Trump was allegedly offering top-secret information to a foreign leader.

When acting Director of National Intelligence, Joseph McGuire, received the information, he was required by federal law to give the information to congress within seven days; he did not.

In 44 previous presidencies, the Department of Justice would uphold the law; Trump’s presidency is different, and apparently above the law. The DOJ and the White House are making desperate attempts to hide the whistle-blower’s statement.

The White House claims that the document is not covered by laws related to whistle-blowers. “At the same time, a second letter from intelligence community Inspector General Michael Atkinson to House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff makes it clear that acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire has not only acted to prevent Atkinson from releasing the report, as required by law, but has also prevented Atkinson from making any arrangements for the whistle-blower to come forward.”

Can you say ‘obstruction of justice?’ Again.

“Although I had hoped the Acting DNI would provide direction, through me, on how the complainant can contact the congressional intelligence community directly, ‘in accordance with appropriate security practices,’” wrote Atkinson, “I have now been informed that the Acting DNI and I are at an impasse.” Not only is Maguire refusing to release the report, but he’s also refusing to allow the inspector general to carry out his obligations under the law. (The last two paragraphs courtesy of the Daily Kos.)

Once again, Trump is directly violating Constitutional Law, and Republicans will allow him to get away with it. Courage to do the right thing is not in Republican’s vocabulary.

Whatever information Trump is attempting to hide will damage him seriously. If it is not enough to impeach him, it will certainly cost him the 2020 election.

Trump’s world is based lies and secrecy. We, the American people deserve better.
