If I called Joe Biden “Out of Touch,” I was Wrong; He Belongs in another Century

by James Turnage, author of “Sheena, Queeen of the Streets”

I don’t dislike Joe Biden. In fact, I like the man. However, I so not believe he should become the President of the United States. He is not the best man or woman for the job.

When the policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell” was proposed, he voted in favor of the unconstitutional plan. He made the same decision when the “Defense of Marriage Act” was proposed. Like many other politicians, he realized the error of his ways and voted to repeal both laws.

My concern is about Biden’s age, but also about his thought process. What other issues would Biden approve which might be harmful to vulnerable groups in America. Issues faced by minorities, Muslims, women, the LGBTQ community and others remain under attack from the right-wing. Can we trust Biden to make the right decisions?

We’ve had an old, white man in the White House for two-years and eight-months, and look how well that’s working.

On Friday evening, 10 Democrats took part in an LGBTQ forum in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When it was Biden’s turn, Lyz Lenz, a reporter for the Cedar Rapids Gazette challenged his previous voting record. They verbally sparred for some time, but it was clear that Biden is currently a friend of the LGBTQ community today. However, Lenz had one more question for the former vice-president.

Mike Pence is not only a homophobe, he was the first American governor to approve and sign a law in Indiana allowing “Christian zealots” to refuse services to same-sex couples. He is also a strong supporter of “conversion therapy” which has been proven extremely dangerous to young minds. Lenz asked Biden why he referred to Pence as “a decent man.”

Biden made the classic mistake; he used the same old line failed Democrats have been saying for decades. He said, “when you want to get things done you have to work with the other side.” This is how career Democrats became failures; passive about what was happening in Washington. It’s time to stop being nice. Republicans are the enemy of the American people, led by Moscow Mitch McConnell, who is a traitor to his country.

We need more congresswomen like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayana Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. The right-wing is afraid of them for the single reason that they represent most Americans. America is no longer a white nation. Diversity is growing with every day, and our country is becoming a beautiful nation.

Republicans refuse to listen to the majority of Americans who support a form of socialism which would ensure that all Americans had free or affordable healthcare and education. We are in favor of stricter gun laws to protect the 90 percent of Americans who choose not to live in a gun-infested society. We support the rights of the LGBTQ community. Women’s rights have been ignored for decades and that must be changed. Right-wing politicians refuse to represent us, so we will remove them from Washington and save America. We, the people, have the power.

It is mandatory that we elect a president and a congress which represents a younger and more diverse nation. That does not include a single Republican or Joe Biden.

Finally, my dream ticket is Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. Both senators are strong, intelligent, progressive, and would crush the orange man. They are what America needs today. They would serve all 320 million Americans; Trump represents only his supporters.

“The truth lives here;” spread the word.
