Another False Claim, and another Broken Promise as Trump’s Base Begins to Decline

by James Turnage, author of “Four More Years”

Politicians make promises; often they know what they tell their supporters has no opportunity of becoming reality. Not a single man in political history made as many hollow promises as Donald Trump. Not even one of them has become a reality.

Trump’s promises of a booming economy have begun to disintegrate. The recovery he inherited from President Obama is now in reverse. His own fiscal policies have resulted in harm to our economy and forecasts of a recession are nearly universal.

After two tax breaks for the super-rich, enormous reductions in the tax rate for corporations, ill-advised tariffs on imports, and another belief in the practice of trickle-down economics in general are beginning to be felt by nearly every American. In a very short period of time, Trump’s unilateral policies have added one-trillion dollars to the deficit.

One of Trump’s many lies to his supporters was directed at America’s steel industry. He promised that he would ensure that the construction industry would abandon foreign steel and use nothing but the American made product. Let’s see how that worked. Trump discovered that wishing rarely results in success.

Back in January, Trump claimed “Tariffs on the ‘dumping’ of Steel in the United States have totally revived our Steel Industry. New and expanded plants are happening all over the U.S. We have not only saved this important industry, but created many jobs. Also, billions paid to our treasury. A BIG WIN FOR U.S.” Then in April, “The forgotten voters of the 2016 Election are now doing great,” he crowed in April. The Steel Industry is rebuilding and expanding at a pace that it hasn’t seen in decades.” He failed to understand that certain types of steel necessary for the defense industry and others is not manufactured in America.

Car making and construction are down, and the three largest steel companies are beginning to suffer.

“U.S. Steel’s got some real problems,” New York City-based steel industry analyst Charles Bradford said. That’s an understatement. Wall Street analysts predicted it would lose 6 cents a share this quarter. U.S. Steel says it’s going to be 35 cents. “ArcelorMittal’s not doing so well either,” Bradford continued. “The steel industry’s got some real problems.”

The mainstream media will ignore this lie from Trump. It’s not “sensational enough for them,” and will not produce advertising dollars. The number of lies from the orange man are so excessive, only the most egregious are mentioned in the news.

The truth is American businesses are not returning to our nation; more are leaving. His tariffs have greatly damaged American business, and are beginning to cost consumers money. Every Republican president in the last 40 years has failed to grow the economy and more importantly advance the quality of life for the working class.

You might want to notice the fact that Moscow Mitch has lobbied for a Russian Aluminum Plant to be built in Kentucky.

Trump must go, but removing his party from Washington is equally important. They do not know how to govern America.

“The truth lives here;” please spread the word.
