The NRA is not a lobby for second amendment rights or gun safety. It’s sole purpose is to protect the profits of gun manufacturers and gun sellers. The greatest crime of the NRA is the fact that they support mass shooters and have no concern about the lives of innocent Americans. The truth is they celebrate every sensational mass shooting for the single fact that guns sales increase after dozens of our people are slaughtered by a lone gunman with a military assault rifle.
The NRA is a gun lobby and is tax exempt. Don’t ask me why; it really pisses me off. However, that situation is in jeopardy.
On Friday a senate report was released detailing a trip by NRA executives to Russia using NRA funds. The investigation is focused on the relationship between the NRA and Russian nationals including Maria Butina who was convicted of conspiracy to act as a foreign agent. Her goal was to create a closer relationship between Russia and Republicans through her influence with the NRA.
If the NRA’s actions were illegal, they would lose their tax exempt status and this would eventually force the gun advocate to shut down.
This would be an event celebrated by millions of Americans who are in agreement that our gun laws must be changed. Republicans have been preventing sensible legislation for decades. Without campaign contributions from the NRA, right-wing politicians would have no reason to block the necessary changes.
The fact that the GOP is the party of special interests has ruined our government. The ability of big business to buy the votes of our nation’s Representatives and Senators has created a government which fails to represent the needs and wishes of the majority.
Without lobbyists sensible gun laws would have been passed after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary. Without the Christian Religious Right women would not have to fight for the right to make decisions which affect their physical and mental health. Without lobbies or government would not be dysfunctional; deliberation and compromise would return to Washington.
