Trump compared the efforts to impeach him which are entirely based on Constitutional violations, to a lynching. Additional attacks of racism were immediate against the leader of white supremacy in America.
First, this displays the fact that Trump has never read the Constitution, and most certainly has not read “Being President for Dummies.”
Second, one of the greatest travesties in America, a significant part of our dark past, is the fact that hundreds of African Americans were lynched by white people. The vile murders of men and women were often celebrated like holidays. To compare anything to this horrific fact, which is not revealed in our history books, is a pure act of racism.
The man who is challenging Sean Hannity in efforts to kiss Trump’s humongous derriere, Lindsey Graham, not only agreed with Trump’s remark, he did so emphatically.
“This is a lynching in every sense. This is un-American.” In every sense, he says. Asked if he could understand why African Americans are horrified by this comparison, Graham doubled down. “No, I think lynching is being seen as somebody taking the law in their own hands and out to get somebody for no good reason.”
Graham is ignoring the horrific history of the state he represents. Between 1882 and 1930 at least 156 lynchings took place in South Carolina. But they didn’t end then. The last recorded lynching occurred on February 17, 1947, when a white mob murdered Willie Earle, a young black man who had been arrested for murdering a white taxicab driver.” Graham was born just eight years later.
I am saddened by my own memory. I have always been an Independent voter, but that ended in 2000. I was opposed to the presidency of George W. Bush whose only qualification was a family name. Since that time the situation has become far worse. Not a single Republican is worthy of my vote. All GOP politicians have moved so far to the right they exist in the 1950’s, when deplorable actions against black men and women were acceptable.
Once again, I call for the removal of all old, white, bigoted men from Washington. Graham, Moscow Mitch, Grassley, Cornyn, and many others must be retired. Without term limits some of the worst men in government have been allowed to obtain power and influence and the result is a dysfunctional government where deliberation and compromise no longer exist.
