Facebook Condones Bullying and Harassment but Denies the Facts

Facebook claims that it has a policy which forbids bullying and harassment by its users. Recently criticized by this writer and millions of others for allowing political ads even when Facebook management is aware that they are blatant lies, it has failed to keep its own policies involving vicious personal attacks against other subscribers.

“We have a responsibility to keep people safe on our services — whether from terrorism, bullying, or other threats,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in November of last year.

“Bullying and harassment happen in many places and come in many different forms,” according to Facebook’s community standards. “We do not tolerate this kind of behavior because it prevents people from feeling safe and respected on Facebook.”

That all sounds good, however, CNN investigated allegations which prove that Zuckerberg is lying.

In one instance a young woman was called the “n” word and was told to “go and slit her wrists.” When the woman complained to Facebook, they claimed to take action, but CNN discovered that they did not ban the perpetrator from their site. In fact, nothing was done until CNN became involved.

“It’s horrific. It’s mind boggling,” said Andrew Marantz, author of a new book, “Antisocial.”

“Facebook likes to call itself a community, and if they want to live up to that promise, at the very bare minimum they should try to protect people from stuff like this.”

Most of you know that I no longer post my articles on Facebook. I have never liked social media and now we know that it is more destructive than informative or entertaining. It has become a complete waste of time.

I wonder if Facebook users know that they can send group e-mails and prevent their personal information from being broadcast to the entire world.
