I constantly laughed at the members of the Republican clown car in 2016. There were originally 17 men and women seeking their party’s nomination, although the early primaries revealed a single fact; Donald Trump was driving the clown car and one by one he kicked them from their ride.

By early summer only Trump and Ted Cruz were left in the front seat. They didn’t like each other and they failed to discuss the issues. Trump constantly attacked Cruz, calling him “Lyin Ted.” He resorted to the lowest level of attacks on Cruz’ family. He called Cruz’ wife Heidi ‘ugly’ and accused his father of colluding with Lee Harvey Oswald to murder President Kennedy.

Trump made lots of promises; none of which he kept. Eventually Cruz dropped out. Although most Republicans had joined the “anybody but Trump club,” they became instant hypocrites and claimed that he was the greatest candidate in history. Cruz became the biggest hypocrite of all and chose to campaign for the least qualified candidate in history.

When Trump won the Electoral college, with the assistance of Vladimir Putin and America’s mainstream media, even his biggest critics, Moscow Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan immediately obeyed his every command.

As a group, the Democratic candidates in 2019 are impressive. Their debates have been filled with ideas and they face issues ‘head on.’ Attacks on their opponents are based on disagreements about how to address the many issues which continue to face America today. Trump has failed to place his efforts on any of the problems which faced him on January 20, 2017; he’s busy hitting those little white balls. No serious plans exist to solve immigration, healthcare for all, gun violence, the opioid crisis, income inequality, the decline of our educational system, good-paying jobs, and the end of civilization due to climate change all remain in a box somewhere in a White House closet. Trump’s focus has been on tax breaks for the wealthy, and building a wall, which has already been breached multiple times; and of course defending his many Constitutional violations.

Democrats are listening to the American people and discuss their needs and wishes before the television cameras. Unlike Republican failures in 2016 they are articulate and intelligent.

The top four candidates are very close in recent polls. From the day he declared his intention to win the Democratic nomination, he led the large field; today he is in fourth place. Elizabeth Warren is leading with 20 percent, Pete Buttigieg with 19 percent, Bernie Sanders, 17, and Joe Biden at 15 percent. Trailing, but not without hope are Senators Amy Klobuchar and Kamala Harris.

The truth is this might be the most qualified group of candidates in history. With the exception of Buttigieg and Biden, the others are currently United States Senators. Buttigieg is the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and Biden is, of course, the former Vice-President of the United States after serving in the Senate for multiple terms.

My fellow Americans, it’s time to take our country back. The bad joke played on America by millions of ignorant Americans must end. We can save our country on November 3, 2020; please vote.
