Over the past weekend, including Monday night, I watched several NFL games. Two of the games were disappointing, not for the contests themselves, but because two teams proved to their fans that they cannot win the Super Bowl this year.
On Sunday morning I watched the Kansas City Chiefs play against the Tennessee Titans. Kansas City has the best quarterback in football and the best overall offense. However, they also have the worst defense. Patrick Mahomes threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns, and his defense was unable to keep the Titans from scoring at will.
Monday night the San Francisco 49ers hosted the Seattle Seahawks. I know many readers doubted me when I predicted that the Seahawks would win the NFC West, but last night proved me right. The 49ers entered the game as the last undefeated team in the NFL. They have the best defense in the professional football but an inadequate quarterback and incompetent offense. Their record is now 8-1.
Finally, the teams headed for the Super Bowl appear to be the Baltimore Ravens from the AFC, and the Seattle Seahawks from the NFC. Baltimore has both a great offense with quarterback Lamar Jackson, and an excellent defense. The Seahawks’ quarterback, Russell Wilson, is having his best year, and their defense in improving with every game. With these two teams in the Super Bowl the outcome will be a toss-up and finally fun to watch. I might not switch channels in the third quarter this year.
