What are Your Qualifications for a President? One of them Cannot be Party Affiliation

harris-1

We have learned everything about the greatest mistake in American history known as Donald Trump. Because of his failures, lack of morals, and incompetence, these and other factors are important and must be remembered for future elections.

Trump is a wealthy, old, white man who had no experience in government on election day 2016. Going back to 2000, George W. Bush was a wealthy, old white man whose only experience was as the governor of Texas. His only accomplishment was executing more individuals than his predecessors.

Recent history proves that in the 21st century the President of the United States must have prior experience in federal government. This is my primary requirement in choosing the woman or man who will lead our nation. My second concern is age. The average age of all Americans is 38.1 years. I find it unrealistic to believe that any man nearing 80 years of age can relate to a younger population. Finally, life experience is critical. Any woman or man who has not worked for a living; whose life has been filled with luxury and privilege; cannot relate to, or understand the problems of most Americans. Approximately 100 million Americans are considered low income or living below the poverty line. The middle class is disappearing and the gap between 704 billionaires and 18.6 million millionaires is widening. One requirement I do not have is party affiliation. I do not believe in political parties. Voters should always elect the most qualified individual whose proposals are closest to their own.

Two examples prove my selections. Both “W” and Trump are old, white men, whose lives began in luxury and privilege. Both failed our nation’s people, and Trump continues to make the lives of the working class more difficult.

I have great respect for the group of Democrats who are seeking their party’s nomination. I agree with every idea proposed by Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Michael Bloomberg, and most of Joe Biden’s. However, they are all too old, and in the case of Biden, he continues to prove that he is out of touch with the majority.

My final stipulation is that she or he must be a progressive; a woman or man who will help America join the rest of developed nations. It is not a wish, it is a need and a demand that all Americans have access to the best healthcare available. By not making higher education available to all Americans we are losing some of the finest minds in the land. America is ranked 17th in education within developed nations. This is literally a crime against our own country. This one fact alone is hastening the demise of America. Immigration has become a larger problem than it was on January 20, 2017. Border control is not in the top five of our concerns. Most illegal women and men residing in the United States arrive through our ‘ports of entry’ legally, and simply never leave. Nearly 12 million men, women, and children remain in limbo without a path to legal residence or citizenship. The opioid crisis continues to be the root cause for nearly 60,000 deaths each year; nothing has been done to end this tragedy. Thanks to Trump’s failed economic policies fewer good paying jobs exist today than in 2017. Foreclosures on farms are at their highest point in a decade. Thanks to tariffs you and I are paying higher prices for food, appliances, and clothing. The national debt has risen to its highest level in history. Trump’s gifts to the wealthy have added more than one-trillion dollars to the deficit. These are just a few of the major problems our nation continues to face and there are no solutions proposed. Trump will make the job of our 46th president far more difficult than it needs to be.

My favorite candidate is Senator Kamala Harris. Her ideas are most similar to my own. If not her, I would proudly support Elizabeth Warren. Her age is a concern for me, but her proposals are focused on much younger Americans. Senator Warren is more ‘forward thinking’ than most of the other candidates, regardless of age. Either woman would be far superior to the old white supremacist defiling our nation’s White House today.
