When hearings were in progress for Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, for me and millions of others it forced a flashback to 1991. While I watched old, white, Republican men attack Dr. Christine Blasey Ford for her testimony, I saw an enormous similarity to the confirmation hearings of another Republican leaning Justice, Clarence Thomas.

Anita Ford told the committee that Thomas had sexually harassed her multiple times and was extremely suggestive during their conversations. Ms. Ford was verbally assaulted by nearly every old white man; Democrat and Republican alike. One of those men was the Chairman, then Senator Joe Biden.

Like Dr. Ford, Ms. Hill was a credible and convincing witness. Sadly, the ‘good old boys’ club which was the senate in 1991, and remains so today, embarrassed themselves with every question. The final vote approved Thomas. He is one of the reasons the SCOTUS is slanted towards the right today.

Clarence, always a Republican extremist first, is now attempting to attack Biden for what he perceived as a verbal “assault” during the 1991 hearings.

A documentary is being produced about those very hearings. Thomas is claiming that Ms. Hill lied, and Biden and others opposed his confirmation for a single reason; his opposition to women’s rights on the issue of abortion.

He told the filmmakers, “Do I have like stupid written on the back of my shirt? I mean come on. We know what this is all about. People should just tell the truth: ‘This is the wrong black guy; he has to be destroyed.’ Just say it. Then now we’re at least honest with each other. The idea was to get rid of me. And then, after I was there, it was to undermine me.”

Thomas noted that the Judiciary Committee under Biden’s leadership wanted to target him to protect the court’s ruling on Roe v. Wade. He didn’t mention Biden by name, but he highlighted Biden’s line of questioning about natural law during the hearings.

“I have no idea what he was talking about. I understood what he was trying to do. I didn’t really appreciate it,” he explained. “Natural law was nothing more than a way of tricking me into talking about abortion.”

The truth is that Thomas and Kavanaugh are sexual predators and should not be members of our nation’s highest court. Misogynists have no place in America’s government.

When men are judged by other men, and their adversaries are women, history proves that men will always stand with the man. This is one of many reasons I believe it is time for a woman president, a female dominated congress, and a Supreme Court composed of at least five female justices. Women continue to dominate our population and our government should mirror that fact.

Thomas should be impeached. His lies and bias towards the right-wing prove that he is incapable of performing the only job demanded from him; to decide if laws and regulations conform to or are in opposition to the Constitution.

If you love your country, you are required to use your vote on November 3, 2020 and save our nation from the fascist design of Trump and his circle of sinners who call themselves Republicans.
