If you wake up every day feeling uneasy; tense and even a little confused, you are one of millions of Americans. If you are like me, a senior who remembers the America of the 1950’s and every decade since, you know that something has changed.
When Donald Trump became your illegitimate president on November 8, 2016, real Americans knew that something dark and fearful had happened. On November 9th, my wife and I found it difficult to feel normal. We didn’t know what was to come, and we were afraid. We had no idea how bad the future would be.
Three years later we realize that we are not living in the America which deserved our loyalty. The truth is that there are two countries; two nations divided not by borders, but by principles and beliefs.
The government created by our founding fathers no longer exists. The purpose of a democratic republic is relatively simple. Knowing that the new nation would grow, a pure democracy was impossible. Therefore, they decided that the people would vote for men who would represent and serve them. Three separate but equal branches would ensure that America would never become an autocracy. When the Constitution was completed and signed on September 17, 1787, our founding fathers knew that the document was nearly perfect, but it would now be the responsibility of the people and their government to protect the principles and ideals they had written. For the last three years the Trump administration has failed to represent all 330 million Americans. This is the root of America’s division.
Trump and the Trump Party support only the men and women who support them. I, and the majority of Americans, have been pushed aside. Think I’m wrong? Here are a few statistics which offer irrefutable facts confirming my claims.
83% of the public supports background checks for gun owners; 77% of Americans want Roe v. Wade upheld; and 84% of the nation supports paid maternity leave, which has yet to become law despite President Donald Trump’s promising it during his 2016 campaign.
This issues and more, including same-sex marriage, healthcare for all, and low-cost or free education for everyone who wants it, continue to be ignored by Trump and his entire party. The right-wing is not listening to the American people. They support special interests exclusively.
Trump is ruling over us, not serving us. He believes that he is not only a king, but the ruler of the entire world. He constantly gives the ‘middle finger’ to the American people as he refuses to consider the needs and wishes of the many while giving the super-rich huge tax cuts. Income inequality is becoming a greater problem every day. A new country has been created where only the wealthy and powerful are free and enjoy the rights guaranteed everyone by the Constitution.
This is why voting day 2020; November 3rd; is the most important day in American history. A lot of Americans claim that the people must take their country back. Nothing could be more accurate today. This is our nation, not Trump’s or the Trump Party. Please vote.
