An article written for the Chicago Tribune by Dahleen Glanton is the most truthful depiction of Trump’s illegitimate presidency and what both Democrats and Republicans knew from the very beginning; impeachment was inevitable.

Trump began his term by attempting to violate the Constitution by preventing all Muslims from entering America; with the exception of his friends and benefactors from Saudi Arabia. This is a direct violation of the first amendment which guarantees freedom of or from religion. When he learned about an investigation into the 2016 campaign to confirm that Russia interfered in our 2016 election, and later to learn whether or not the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, he obstructed justice multiple times. This was the only reason James Comey was fired. The truth is that Trump should have been impeached before the end of 2017.

Ms. Glanton points to one important fact. Trump and Republicans claim that impeaching him is an effort to repeal the results of the 2016 election; they are “out to get him.” This is all a lie. All they had to do was wait for Trump to self-inflict wounds which would doom his presidency. His mental incompetence will be forever a subject of conversation between intelligent men and women.

Finally; when Trump supported the actions of white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, he offered irrefutable proof that he is unworthy and unfit to be the President of the United States. He represents only a small percentage of all Americans, and those Americans do not support or respect the Constitution.

The sad result of this story is that the hypocritical Republicans in the senate will allow Trump to remain in office. Therefore, until January 20, 2021, America will have a proven criminal living in the White House.

America will be the target of laughter and shame around the world.
