It’s not a “wave” but polls reveal one important fact; the American people are moving to the left on most issues. Reforming our gun laws, universal healthcare, free or low-cost education, same sex marriage, and equal rights for women are all supported by the majority. With an average age of 38.1, and the largest voting bloc belonging to millennials, America is gradually moving away from conservative thinking.
Capitalism has failed, as predicted more than 100 years ago. Income inequality is one of the most serious issues facing the economy of our nation in the future. Most millennials favor a form of “democratic socialism.” Freedom and equality belong to the wealthy. When Trump took office our nation had 545 billionaires and 10.1 million millionaires. Three years later there are 704 billionaires and 18.6 million millionaires. Trump’s government serves the super-rich and only the super-rich. The positive description of our nation’s economy belongs only the the wealthy, not the working class. Wages have not increased, and good-paying jobs continue to disappear.
If the Democratic Party fails to nominate a progressive candidate, they will likely lose the 2020 election. Personally, I believe that Joe Biden is too old and out of touch with today’s America. He is the status quo, and look where that got our nation in 2016.
Pete Buttigieg is moving away from any progressive platform, and this will not rescue our nation from Trump’s efforts to establish a fascist regime in America.
Now that Kamala Harris has ended her efforts to win the nomination, that leaves two of the greatest Americans alive today in contention to lead the Democratic Party; Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren.
The positions of both senators on the issues are closest to those of the “people’s president,” Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Roosevelt believed that all Americans should benefit from America’s economic growth, not just a few.
Possibly the best example in modern history is the presidency of Bill Clinton. He inherited more than a one-trillion dollar deficit. When he left office in 1993, our treasury experienced a surplus. Another Republican’s failed economic policies and his penchant for war left our nation in trillions of dollars in debt in 2009. President Obama worked hard for eight years to save our nation’s economy and left office in 2017 with a nation in full recovery mode. Trump is moving us backwards in every aspect of that recovery. Economically, socially, and in the area of worldwide respect, America has been altered in a very negative manner.
The Democratic Party must return to its past. They must rebuild themselves as the party of the people and reject special interests. Republicans have ignored the majority for more than three decades; this must change.
Please vote on November 3, 2020. This will be the most important general election in our nation’s history. Vote for the best candidates, not a party. You will be voting for yourself and those you love, not for failed, old, white men who serve only themselves.
