One of the most significant results of the 2018 midterm election is that as of today, 126 members of the House of Representatives are women. Of those 126, only 29 are Republicans. This alone says a lot about the differences between the two parties and how they see America in the 21st century.
2020 will mark the 100th year anniversary of the suffrage movement which gave women the right to vote. For the first 135 years of our nation’s existence men ignored the value and the importance of the role of women in America. The real question is ‘will the third decade in the 21st century be the period when women end their quest to receive equality from men, or will it become history when they take it?’
A couple of statistics which are significant for the 2020 election and all future elections.
America is only 243 years old. More importantly, the average age of all citizens is only 37.7 years of age. This makes the United States the youngest country in the world of developed nations. Just over two years ago millennials replaced my generation of baby boomers as the largest voting bloc in America. Now in our 70’s, we are leaving our earthly bonds at a very rapid rate.
Although we have not had a world war in 74 years, women continue to dominate the population by 51-49 percent. Until the 2018 election, the percentage of votes by single women were minimal. With this change and increased participation by millennials, all future elections could be decided by only two demographics.
On January 21, 2017 America’s women made a statement which I will never forget. Not only were the streets of Washington filled with women and the men who supported them, the streets of cities across our nation experienced demonstrations confirming the strength and power of women in America. My daughter and granddaughters marched in Florida and I was extremely proud when I learned about their participation.
I am thankful that I have been a ‘feminist’ for all my adult life. Being a feminist simply means that I support equal rights for women in every aspect of American life. All real Americans should be feminists.
After Trump learned that he lost the 2016 election by three million popular votes he began to make fallacious attacks against Hillary Clinton. He continues to attack her more than three years after he lost the election to a woman. Today he is attacking Nancy Pelosi; another woman who defeated the egomaniac in the White House.
The white, old, Republican men in today’s Republican Party in name only lack the courage to do the right thing, but women do not. Trump will lose to any woman candidate nominated by the Democratic Party in 2020.
My loyalty was to Kamala Harris and I am greatly saddened that she withdrew. My candidate of choice today is Elizabeth Warren. Trump would be crushed by this strong and patriotic woman. She is the opposite of Trump in every single way. Most importantly she would be a great American president; once again the opposite of the man-child who illegitimately wears the title of President of the United States today. Trump is not my president, and he is not an American.
