Like Trump, Joe Biden is too white, too old, and too ‘status quo’ to be our nation’s 46th president. His history is filled with past actions which will not serve America in the 21st century. Joe Biden is a good man who loves his country. However, his judgment and past prejudices prevent him from becoming our president in 2020. If we have learned anything from Trump’s vile and failed presidency, it is that backwards thinking men and women will destroy the advances made by 44 previous presidents.
Biden’s most egregious mistake was made in 1991. The former vice-president was the chairman of the committee designated to vet Clarence Thomas as George H.W. Bush’s nominee for the Supreme Court. I watched as Anita Hill’s allegations of sexual harassment by Thomas were attacked by the senate and who refused to respect her claims. I, and millions of other Americans had little doubt that Thomas was indeed guilty. Biden joined other white men who belittled Ms. Hill’s description of the accounts when Thomas attempted to force her into a sexual liaison.
This past Thursday, Ms. Hill spoke at the University of Iowa about the travesty which occurred 29 years ago.
“The statute of limitations for his apology is up,” Hill told the audience after she was asked how hard it would be for the former Vice President to simply admit he was wrong, according to BuzzFeed. She added, “Here is what I want now. … What are you going to do about it? What are you going to do today? Will you promise as leader of this country … would you promise to use all of your energy to address the problem as it happened and to prevent it from happening to another generation? That’s what I want to hear.”
Great men and women admit their mistakes. No one is perfect, although Trump claims that he is every day. If Biden is serious about leading America into the future, he must be willing to apologize to Ms. Hill for his failure to support her three decades in the past. If he will not, he is confirming what I believe, that he has not changed and is part of America’s dark past and cannot be allowed to lead our nation. Racism and bigotry, as displayed by Trump and the Trump Party, have no place in America.
America is in desperate need of a progressive woman or man who will lead us and join the rest of developed nations who place people before profit.
I was a supporter of Kamala Harris since 2017. I am very sorry that she ended her campaign. Today I support Elizabeth Warren and hope that she will win the Democratic nomination and add Senator Harris as her running mate. This combination would destroy Trump and the Trump Party. They could become a guiding light into the future for the great majority of the American people who share their views on the most important issues.
The Trump Party has become the enemy of the Constitution and the American people. If you vote for them, you are voting against yourself and the future of those you love.
