Let’s get right to the truth. The Middle East “peace plan” revealed by Trump and his evil twin, Benjamin Netanyahu, is not a “peace plan.” It is a gift to Netanyahu’s effort to remain in power in Israel and a reelection effort by Trump. The Palestinian people received nothing; the status quo remains.
Israel was recognized as a sovereign state by the United Nations in 1948. The Palestinian people are still waiting for the same recognition.
In Trump’s plan, partly written by Jared Kushner, Palestinians remain banned from Jerusalem’s main streets and will remain in the eastern part of the city which was already in control of Arabs. Under this arrangement the Palestinian people will not receive statehood. Israel will still “land grab” at will. Why? The plan was conceived without the input of Palestinian leaders. This is an example of Kushner’s prejudice and represents his opinion of the Palestinian people.
When the Boy Prince of New Jersey touched on politics, it was to offer the savvy take that if everyone just stopped “doing terrorism,” it would “allow for much faster flow of goods and people.” Not surprisingly, the whole thing was panned by experts, one of whom described Kushner’s plan as “the Monty Python sketch of Israeli-Palestinian peace initiatives.” Undeterred, Kushner got on a call with Arab and Israeli reporters and, putting on his salesman cap, explained that his vision was 100% workable if Palestinian leadership would stop being so “hysterical and stupid.”
Is this considered “diplomacy” in Trump’s regime? Are these intelligent statements which would inspire legitimate negotiations between the Jewish and Palestinian people? Not even close.
Personally, I resent the obvious ‘fakery’ of this entire display of arrogance. Real diplomats and real presidents have attempted to negotiate peace in the region for decades. They all failed, not because of Palestinian resistance, but because Israeli leadership has refused to accept statehood for their neighbors, while continuing to literally steal land throughout the area. This was a political event. To claim that a “peace agreement” had been accomplished is another lie. Without Palestinian participation, there can be no ‘agreement.’
The fact is that this was a show by two very old, very white, and very bigoted men to use for political advantage, and nothing more. Trump was desperate to display his support for Jewish citizens in Israel and Florida. Nothing else was accomplished.
I was not fooled, and I hope you will not be either.
