Once again Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski disappointed her supporters and the American people by obeying Moscow Mitch McConnell and refusing to do the right thing. The “party of family values” has permanently discarded the golden rule. She joined 50 other Republican senators and voted against allowing witnesses at Moscow Mitch’s sham trial.
Her speech was as conflicted as her votes in the senate. Although she claimed that she believed in our system of checks and balances; three branches with separate but equal powers, her voting record does not support that claim.
Murkowski declared that Congress “cannot continue to cede authority to the executive.”
However, Murkowski has voted according to the orders of her fuhrer every time, with the exception of repealing Obamacare. She knew that vote would cost her reelection.
She continued. She cited the refusal to exercise war powers, presumably referring to the Senate’s failure to act as a check on the president when he took military action without consulting Congress, as required by the War Powers Act. Murkowski also referenced Congress “relinquishing the power of the purse, selective oversight, and an unwillingness to check emergency declarations designed to skirt Congress.” The impeachment process, she says, is the “apotheosis of the problem of Congressional abdication.”
However, Murkowski has proven to be a part of the problem, not the solution. Her voting record is abysmal. She votes to support and protect Trump each and every time.
Murkowski also said that partisanship and the “court of public opinion” led her to conclude that there would be no fair trial in the Senate. This admission did not prevent her vote against allowing witnesses; without which there is no trial.
One of Murkowski’s most inane reasons for voting for acquittal is the 2020 election. She makes the fallacious claim that ‘Trump’s name is already on the ballot in many states, and removing him from office would disenfranchise those voters.’ Really? I would never make this shit up.
Murkowski has learned the Republican “art” of double-talk. Saying one thing, and doing another is hypocrisy at its highest level.
Let’s end with the truth. Republicans know that Trump is not only the worst illegitimate president in history, he is the worst and most incompetent old white man in the world. He is followed closely by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Yet they continue to support his fascist and racist agenda.
Trump’s insistence that a wall be built on our southern border is unnecessary and would be a complete waste of funds; funds he has already embezzled from our military families. It is nothing more than an act of pure racism. His attempts to ban Muslims is a mixture of racism and Islamophobia. You might notice that his indebted relationship with the Saudi Royal family kept their country off the list. Remember that Osama bin Laden was a member of the Royal Family and 15 of the 19 terrorists were Saudi nationals. Sadly, Trump is an old man who believes that the 1950’s and 1960’s were America’s “golden years” when white nationalists controlled many of out southern states. Today, they are emboldened once again with their leader violating our White House.
When you vote for the Democratic candidate on November 3rd, don’t forget the Trump Party. They have refused to support you, and you should not support them.
