The one lesson every American; Democrat or Republican; should have learned from Moscow Mitch McConnell’s sham impeachment trial is that Republicans are not only cowards, they no longer believe in the “golden rule.”
One man; the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, Mitt Romney; voted to convict Trump. The senator from Utah stood alone and chose to do the right thing; and this is what he said when he offered reasons for his vote.
“I acknowledge that my verdict will not remove the President from office,” Romney said in his speech. “My vote will likely be in the minority in the Senate. But irrespective of these things, with my vote, I will tell my children and their children that I did my duty to the best of my ability, believing that my country expected it of me.”
Some politicos are calling Romney the “new maverick.” I call him a “Republican.” Since John McCain’s passing there have been no real Republicans on the right side of the aisle. One new/old member of the GOP may be a beginning. We can only hope.
